Paulo Zagalo-Melo, PhD
Paulo Zagalo-Melo is Associate Provost for Global Education at Western Michigan University (WMU), overseeing the Haenicke Institute for Global Education (HIGE). Since he joined WMU, in 2017, WMU registered its record year for study abroad participation, implemented three degree programs fully delivered outside the US, and created its first global learning for all initiative – WMU’s Global Engagement Program.
Before joining WMU, Zagalo-Melo was Associate Provost for Global Century Education, Director of the Global Engagement Office, and Associate Professor of Educational Leadership at the University of Montana. Prior to this, he held leadership positions at the Luso-American Development Foundation and at Fulbright Portugal. While at Fulbright, he also served on the Executive Committee of Fulbright Directors from Europe and Israel.
Zagalo-Melo has a doctorate in Political Science from the Catholic University of Portugal (in collaboration with the University of Colorado Boulder ) and an MPA from Harvard University.
