Roopa Rawjee, EdD

Roopa is Assistant Dean/Director of International Student Services (ISS) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is responsible for oversight of programs and services for over 7000 international students and approximately 1000 recent alumni from 120 countries. A former international student from India, Roopa’s background is in teaching English and Social Sciences to high school students in India. She has also taught English as a Second Language to university students in the United States. Roopa has twenty years of experience with immigration compliance, Orientation, and programming for international students and scholars, international education partnership agreements, and strategic planning for international education in the U.S. Her education at the University of Bombay, India includes bachelor’s degrees in Ancient Indian Culture and Education, and a master’s degree in Education. She has a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from California State University, Northridge and a doctorate in Educational Leadership from California Lutheran University. She has served the Massachusetts Council for International Education (MaCIE) as President and founder member of its executive board. Her contributions to the NAFSA Academy for International Education include serving as Coach for academies 13 and 14 and Chair Designate/Chair (2018-20). She is a member of NAFSA’s Trainer Corps. Roopa believes that co-curricular education is an essential complement to the academic experience and strives to incorporate the Wisconsin Experience in all ISS services and offerings.
