Tendai Kachingwe

2024-2025 RISE Fellow

Tendai Kachingwe (he/him) is an International Education professional who is motivated by his goal of increasing participation in education abroad programs by students from underrepresented and underserved backgrounds. Tendai's career in the profession started with studying abroad for an academic year at Sciences Po through their exchange program in partnership with his home institution. He studied in Reims, France where the campus has a regional focus on political interactions between Europe and Africa along with North America. Tendai returned to his home institution and took a position with DePaul Study Abroad as a student worker before taking on the full-time role of program assistant. He advises prospective education abroad participants; hires and trains his office’s student employees; organizes and facilitates a volunteer program for returned education abroad participants; and is serving as a co-leader for a short-term education abroad program that will travel to South Africa in December of 2023. The specific program focuses on identity, both domestically and in an international context along with diversity while aiming to increase participation in international education by underrepresented and underserved students. Tendai serves on his office’s Diversity and Scholarship Committees respectively, focusing with his colleagues on increasing access while incorporating DEI principles in all activities and procedures. Tendai enjoys helping to guide students to resources and education abroad experiences that they may not have known about or believed to be available to them, as was his personal experience. He hopes to also help with increasing representation in the International Education profession.
