Uma A. Segal is professor, School of Social Work at the University of Missouri – St. Louis. Her specialization is immigrant and refugee integration in global perspective, on which she has published and presented extensively. In the last two years, Segal has been an invited keynote speaker at several conferences, including three on behalf of the World Health Organization. She is currently engaged in a cross-national study between Japan and Brazil and another project to bring refugee stories to professionals in the health and social services through theater. As a Fulbright Specialist, in 2018 Segal provided consultation to the Government of Portugal’s High Commission for Migration regarding its refugee integration program. She holds a BA in anthropology from Barnard College of Columbia University, a MS in social work from the University of Texas at Arlington, and a PhD in social work from Washington University – St. Louis.
