On August 15, 2011, SEVP sent the following broadcast message to SEVIS users, updating prior guidance they had sent on July 29, 2011 [Broadcast Message 1107-04], regarding how to respond to requests for school transfer made by F-1 students currently attending University of Northern Virginia.

Re: Update: Significant SEVP Compliance Activity
Number: 1107-04A

As of August 11, 2011, the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) accepted the University of Northern Virginia’s (UNVA) appointment of new designated school officials. Any nonimmigrant student whose Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) record requires action is to now contact the school directly with this request. The SEVP Response Branch (SRB) will forward to the DSOs any requests made since July 28, 2011. The SRB will no longer be taking student requests for SEVIS record changes on behalf of UNVA.

SEVP's SEVP Response Center (SRC) will instruct all UNVA nonimmigrant students who have questions to first contact their DSO. Otherwise, UNVA nonimmigrant students can call the SRC at 703-603-3400. The SRB staffs this number from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST, Monday through Friday.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF SCHOOL OFFICIALS

The information below is important for any UNVA nonimmigrant student who applies for acceptance at another SEVP-certified school following normal admissions procedures:

  • Officials at the transfer-in school must obtain an enrollment application and all additional documents typically requested in order to make an admissions decision, including an assessment of the student’s finances. Those officials must maintain these documents in the F-1 student's academic record.
  • If a student gains admission, a DSO should contact the SEVP Help Desk at 800-892-4829 or [email protected] to manage the student record and should not initiate a new SEVIS record for the student.
