On January 22, 2010, the Department of Homeland Security's Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) sent a broadcast message to SEVIS users, to assist Designated School Officials (DSOs) in advising Haitian students in the aftermath of the earthquake in Haiti. According to SEVP, the message will:

  1. "Provide contact information for specific government initiatives;
  2. Provide contact information for search efforts;
  3. Review the range of decisions a designated school official (DSO) may initiate to assist Haitian students; and,
  4. Identify unresolved issues that SEVP is considering."

SEVP also states that if a DSO has "questions or concerns not addressed in this document, please e-mail them to [email protected] with the subject line, ATTN: POLICY/HAITI."
