Using a combination of case studies and group work, participants are given hands-on opportunities to review and sample the most commonly required nonresident tax forms that nonresident U.S. international students and scholars must complete each year. This learning lab is designed to give ISSS professionals a familiarity with U.S. tax requirements for international students and scholars, and to provide resources and answers to commonly asked questions and situations. This learning lab is not intended to turn ISSS professionals into tax preparers.
- Determine nonresident or resident tax status.
- Identify and review the most common tax forms that nonresident students and scholars are required to complete and submit each year.
- Articulate legal liability, institutional stance, and scope of responsibility while advising on tax issues.
