Tangier—long a gateway between continents, cultures, and civilizations, and a historic nexus of Africa, Europe, and the Mediterranean—provides the ideal setting for the NAFSA inaugural Global Summit, in partnership with American College of the Mediterranean/Institute for American Universities.
The groundbreaking Summit convenes future-focused international education thought leaders, strategic architects, and innovators to reflect deeply and act boldly on what it means to be future-ready—as institutions, as societies, and as a shared global community—amid a time of profound uncertainty, opportunity, and transformation.
As the world navigates climate disruption, geopolitical realignments, technological acceleration, poli-crises, in a post-colonial era, international education leadership must lead with imagination, integrity, and courage. This Summit creates space to examine the dynamic interplay between heritage and innovation; to challenge outdated systems and paradigms; and to co-create forward-looking approaches that honor cultural wisdom, advance equity, and equip learners to thrive in a rapidly changing global landscape.
A signature element of the experience is a full-day immersive journey beyond Tangier to either Rabat, Morocco’s diplomatic heart and hub of innovation and tradition, or Chefchaouen, the soulful mountain city steeped in Amazigh heritage and artistic expression. These place-based learning experiences provide a powerful lens into Moroccan society and education—revealing how indigenous knowledge, cultural sustainability, and plural identities can inform and elevate the world of international education.
This unique Summit is not simply a gathering—it is a movement toward transformative leadership in international education. It is a space for deep reflection, shared visioning, and courageous action.
