Washington – Today, NAFSA: Association of International Educators announced a new partnership with Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) that will provide several scholarships for community college professionals to participate in NAFSA’s Academy for International Education program, its signature program for supporting aspiring professionals in the field.
“Community colleges play a vital role in providing a broad array of students, including first-generation college students and those from diverse and disadvantaged backgrounds, access to a global education,” said Dr. Esther D. Brimmer, NAFSA executive director and CEO. “This partnership with NOVA ensures that international education professionals beginning their careers at community colleges have access to the training, expertise, and networking to succeed. The individuals selected for the Academy with the generous support of NOVA will improve the programs they manage and the field itself for years to come.”
The NAFSA Academy for International Education is an intensive yearlong training program that for more than twenty years has provided participants with a deeper and richer understanding of international education in preparation for future leadership roles.
“NOVA is excited for the opportunity to sponsor a cohort of international educators from community colleges across the United States as part of NAFSA’s Academy program,” said Stacey Bustillos, associate director, Office of International Student Services at Northern Virginia Community College. “The Academy is a proven pathway to advance professional networks in the field and will provide invaluable resources to our colleagues working to broaden international educational experiences for their communities.”
The Academy for International Education will accept applications for its 20th Anniversary Class from September 15, 2022 through November 1, 2022. The Academy program will begin in January 2023 and run for the calendar year. All applicants from community colleges are eligible for the NOVA scholarship.
