In this discussion, Fanta Aw will engage with the authors of a recent paper published in the journal International Review of Education, Samia Chasi and Savo Heleta, which critically engages with global citizenship education (GCE) and internationalization of higher education. The discussion will focus on the ways coloniality and Eurocentricity in higher education relate to and impact global citizenship education, and how decolonial approaches to higher education and internationalization and critical diversity literacy could enhance GCE across the world in these turbulent times.
Dr. Chasi brings more than 25 years of leadership in higher education internationalization and strategic partnerships, currently serving as Head of the Internationalisation and Strategic Partnerships Office at the University of the Witwatersrand. Her scholarship advances critical and decolonial perspectives on internationalization. Dr. Heleta, a Bosnian researcher and consultant with nearly two decades of experience in South African higher education, focuses on decolonisation of knowledge, global citizenship education, and post-conflict higher education rebuilding. Together, they offer deeply informed, globally grounded perspectives shaped by scholarship, practice, and lived experience.
