Alex Hovan
Alex Hovan is a coordinator of International and Academic English Programs in the UC Davis Division of Global Affairs. He stepped into this role in 2025 after spending five years supporting international students and scholars through UC Davis Continuing and Professional Education.
Alex’s path into international education has been anything but conventional—and that’s what makes it so impactful. After earning his BA and MA in Art History from the University of Michigan and the University of Illinois, he moved to Berlin, where he successfully navigated the German credentialing system to become a bilingual kindergarten teacher. That hands-on experience sparked a lasting passion for global learning and access to education across borders.
Since relocating to Davis in 2019, Alex has been all in on helping international students thrive—first as part of the Global Study Program team and now in his current role, where he continues to provide support, guidance, and meaningful connections for students from around the world.
