
Charmagne Herlein
Charmagne Herlien is Director, International Employment & Scholar Services, Office of International Services, at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC). In her current role, Charmagne leads the scholar team, assisting with H-1Bs, J-1 Scholars and Student Interns, visitors, and various faculty, staff, and medical residents in a variety of immigration statuses. She works with campus partners on various issues including human resources, payroll, foreign national employment issues, insurance, programming, and cultural adjustment endeavors. Charmagne has been a long-time NAFSA and Trainer Corps team member. Charmagne returned to UIC after residing in Region XII for several years, where she worked in scholar services at the California Institute of Technology and the University of California, San Diego.
While in Region XII she served as the NAFSA Regulatory Ombudsperson for Scholars and was a member of the NAFSA International Student and Scholar Regulatory Practice, Exchange Visitor Program Committee. She has been involved in immigration advising, primarily for scholars, at large research institutions, for over 20 years. Prior to advising scholars, Charmagne worked in international admissions, programming for international community college students, and teaching ESL in the U.S. and Japan. She earned her MEd in Instructional Leadership, Educational Studies from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
