Connie Childs
Connie Childs retired in July 2024 after serving as director of international affairs at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, Tennessee. Prior to joining UT Health Science Center, she worked as an international student adviser at the University of Memphis. Childs first came to Memphis in 1986 as an F-1 student from Denmark and later earned a master’s degree in English from the University of Memphis. Throughout her career, she was actively engaged with NAFSA at the local, state, regional, and national levels, where she built lasting professional relationships and benefited from the mentorship of colleagues across the field of international education. Her NAFSA service includes involvement on NAFSA's workshop curriculum development, service on the Policy and Practice Committee, and contributions to NAFSA publications. She also served for several years on the Region VII team, presented at state, regional, and national conferences, and was active locally through the Memphis International Colloquy.
In retirement, Childs continues to sing in her church choir and enjoys crafting, baking, reading, and traveling.
