Derek Smallwood

Derek Smallwood serves as the Assistant Director for International Health and Safety in Global Operations at Tufts University. In this role he identifies, mitigates, and responds to hazards and world events impacting the University’s international footprint. Before this role, he served as International Risk Manager and Associate Director of Education Abroad at Colorado State University, and has held other positions within international education, both domestic and abroad. Derek has a master’s degree in sociology from CSU and a bachelor’s in global studies from Lesley University. He lives in South Hero, Vermont and can be found skiing, hiking, biking, camping… and reading historical fiction.
