Gwyneth A. Smith, Associate Director of the International Students and Scholars Office at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, is a dedicated professional in the field of International Education and currently serves as NAFSA's Trainer Corps Chair Designate. Gwyneth is responsible for immigration-related matters for the F-1 student population and H-1B faculty/staff on Columbia's Medical Center campus. Gwyneth is also proficient in J-1 Exchange Visitor matters. She holds both an M.A. in International Relations from the Brussels School of International Studies, through the University of Kent at Canterbury, England and an Ed.M. in International Educational Development, focusing on policy from Teachers College, Columbia University. Throughout this time, she has presented at numerous local, regional, and national NAFSA conferences and at various One To World meetings. She has also presented for the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA). Gwyneth trains on F-1, J-1, and H-1B regulations. Gwyneth previously served as both Student and Scholar Regulatory Ombudsman and on the Chair-stream for NAFSA Region X (New York/New Jersey). She also held the CEP Dean position for "Filing Academic H-1B Petitions" and was an instructional designer and content editor for the NAFSA "J-1 Advising for Beginners" training manual. In December 2021 Gwyneth received the NAFSA Region X James O'Driscoll Distinguished Service Award.
