Kayihura Muganga Didas
Prof. Kayihura Muganga Didas, an Associate Professor of Business Law, is the Acting Vice Chancellor of the University of Rwanda since July 2022. He is an academic manager with an experience of over 20 years in academic and research industry. Kayihura holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) - Corporate Governance, and a Masters (LL.M) focused on International Business/Trade/Commerce from Utrecht University, The Netherlands. He has strong managerial skills both in academia and in practice of Law, but also on-board memberships. Prior to joining back to the University of Rwanda, where he had previously worked as academic staff but also as leader in various capacities, including Vice Dean and later Dean of the School of Law; Postgraduate Coordinator, and Principal of the College of Arts and Social Science, he served as the Rector of the Institute of Legal Practice and Development (ILPD) 2017 – July 2022.
Kayihura is currently serving as an Executive member of the governing councils of IUCEA, ARUA and AAUN where he was elected by his peers (Rectors and Presidents) to these regional, Continental and inter-continental academic and research governing bodies.
Kayihura is among the founding Board members of the Rwanda Foods and Drugs Authority (FDA) since 2018 to date, where he is the Chair of the Technical and Regulatory committee. Previously, he served as a Board member in various other institutions,
including being the Chairperson of Kigali City Council; Regulatory Member and Chair of the Technical Regulatory Committee for the Rwanda Utilities and Regulatory Agency (RURA); Commissioner at the East African Community Competition Authority (EACA) for two terms (8 years). He served as a member of the Supreme Council of the Judiciary and on the Supreme Council of the Prosecution respectively for over 10 years. He served as the Vice Chair of the Disciplinary Council for the Rwanda Bar Association for 5 years.
A Fellow with the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb - London), member of both the Rwanda Bar Association (RBA) and the East African Law Society (EALS), is a Certified trainer in Mediation, Arbitration, Negotiation and Legal practice, and has also a strong experience in Business transactions. An experienced practitioner of Law, and a founding partner of Fountain Advocates Law Firm.
