Lucia Calderon Gallegos

I am an Education Abroad Advisor at Indiana University Bloomington, where I advise students on programs in Italy and Scandinavia. I earned a bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Studies from Indiana University and a master’s degree in International Higher Education through a dual-degree program at Boston College and the Universidad de Guadalajara. My passion for international education is rooted in my own experiences as a student. I studied abroad for a semester in Copenhagen, Denmark, and participated in a faculty-led program to India for underrepresented students, experiences that transformed my sense of what was possible and showed me the impact of scholarships and supportive advisors. I strive to be the advisor I once needed, helping students discover opportunities they didn’t know existed and encouraging them not to count themselves out before even trying. As an IU student, I benefited from a strong support system that helped me navigate higher education and international opportunities. Now, as a staff member, I am committed to helping build that same sense of support for students and colleagues alike. In addition to my advising work, I am an active member of the IU Bloomington Staff Council, where I contribute to initiatives that promote staff engagement, wellbeing, and inclusive workplace practices.
