Luis, originally from Brazil, relocated to the United States where he pursued further education in New Orleans (NOLA) and specialized in immigration law. He is a graduate of the NAFSA Academy, having participated as a Trainee in Academy Class 15 in 2018. At the beginning of his career in the U.S., Luis served as both a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) at a small college in rural Pennsylvania. In that role, he provided guidance to students throughout their immigration processes and acclimatization to campus life, while also collaborating with faculty and staff to advocate for international and exchange students, as well as visiting scholars. He is certified in facilitating intercultural learning and actively promotes cultural exchange initiatives that encourage meaningful dialogue and the sharing of diverse perspectives. In addition to his primary role, Luis supports international collaboration as a Fulbright liaison for scholars at UF and contributes to the Fulbright Commission’s mission of fostering global academic exchange.
