Malikka Hutchins is an International Education Professional whose passion for the field was ignited by a Study Abroad opportunity to South Korea that would not have been possible without her being awarded a Gilman Scholarship. Upon returning from the trip as the first in her family to ever go abroad, Malikka graduated with her B.A. in Communication with a minor in Creative Writing and Korean. Soon after, she began studying International Education at New York University. At NYU, Malikka worked for the Office of Global Affairs as an International Program Assistant, and as the Communication Officer of the International Education Student Board. She graduated from NYU in 2020 with her M.A. in International Education, then started working in the Office of Global Engagement at Montclair State University in 2021 as the Administrative Assistant and one of the DSOs for the International Student and Scholar Services team. Now, Malikka works as the Program Coordinator for the Office of Global Initiatives and Experiential Learning at Rutgers University -Newark. Though she is fairly new to the field, Malikka has big ambitions as a professional in International Education. She is working to further diversify the demographic of students from the U.S. who get the opportunity to Study Abroad, and the demographic of faculty and staff who lead international academic initiatives. To achieve this, Malikka intends to pursue a Ph.D. in International or Higher Education with the hopes that her experience as a Black, Muslim woman will contribute a necessary nuance to the research. In her free time, Malikka enjoys traveling, writing, reading, gaming, and almost anything else that allows her to experience new places and see new faces.
