
Mallik Sundharam
Mallik Sundharam assumed his role as Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs at Illinois Institute of Technology, bringing more than 25 years of leadership experience in higher education. Since joining, he has been instrumental in driving record-breaking enrollment growth and advancing student success. Under his leadership, Illinois Tech has repositioned its focus on value and outcomes, achieving a remarkable 30+% increase in student enrollment, the university’s highest in over three decades , while significantly expanding access for first-generation and underrepresented students.
Sundharam has spearheaded the expansion of Illinois Tech’s digital and global presence through the “Meet the Learners Where They Are” initiative, introducing innovative programs and forging strategic partnerships to attract a diverse student body from “K through Grey” across the globe. He also successfully launched the Student First initiative, which leverages technology-driven platforms, peer-mentoring, and personalized advising to deliver proactive and unified support. This student-centric model ensures that learners feel supported and empowered throughout their academic journey. In addition, Sundharam created the Elevate program, a transformative four-year experience that provides students with structured opportunities in internships, co-ops, research, and real-world problem-solving. Elevate ensures graduates are not only academically prepared but also equipped with practical skills and experiences to thrive in their careers.
Prior to joining Illinois Tech, Sundharam held key leadership roles at Northeastern University, ELS Educational Services, and Saint Joseph’s University. At Northeastern, as Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management, he drove enrollment growth across multiple international campuses and helped build one of the largest international student populations in the U.S. At ELS, he provided strategic guidance to more than 650 universities worldwide, focusing on global marketing and recruitment. Sundharam’s extensive experience and strategic vision continue to advance Illinois Tech’s mission as an opportunity engine, expanding access, driving innovation, and preparing students to succeed in a rapidly evolving global landscape.
