Michael Clemens, PhD

Michael Clemens is a leading scholar on the economics of migration in the United States and across the world. He is a professor in the Department of Economics at George Mason University, and a Senior Fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics in Washington. From 2021 to 2023 he served in the US federal government as a high-level advisor on immigration policy. His research has won the Royal Economic Society Prize and he has been chosen as a fellow at the IZA Institute of Labor Economics in Bonn, Germany, a fellow of the Centre for Research and Analysis of Migration (CReAM) at RFBerlin, and an invited member of the Research and Policy Network on the Political Economy of Migration at the Centre for Economic Policy Research in London/Paris. He serves as an Associate Editor of the Journal of Economic Perspectives and holds a Ph.D. from the Department of Economics at Harvard University.
