Timothy Starkweather

Timothy Starkweather is a country officer in the Office of American Citizen Services at the U.S. Department of State. In the Africa Division he covers Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Burkina Faso, Uganda, and Gabon. Previously, he worked as a paralegal specialist in the Bureau of Consular Affairs and with the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor. Before joining the State Department he worked with a refugee legal aid program in Cairo, Egypt, on refugee status determination cases and assisted applicants before the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. Tim has a BA in international studies and Asian studies from Seattle University. While finishing an MA in Cairo, Egypt, his studies were interrupted by the 2011 revolution and became one of the types of cases on which he now works.
