Hot Topic Tuesdays
Hot Topic Tuesdays take place on the 3rd Tuesday of the month. They are opportunities for international educators to come together, network, and discuss relevant trends and best practices with one another. Each meeting will revolve around a particular topic and a facilitator will guide the discussion by asking targeted questions to get people thinking and engaging with one another. Participants may be encouraged (but not required!) to do something in advance of the meeting (such as read a particular article, watch a TedTalk, listen to a podcast, attend a webinar, etc.) based on the topic, which will guide the discussion questions.
Spring 2022 Schedule (Pacific Time):
- February 15, 12:00 - 1:00 p.m.: Social Media and Communication in the International Office
- March 15, 12:00 - 1:00 p.m.: Conference Debrief and Takeaways - Register HERE
- April 19, 12:00 - 1:00 p.m.: Day in the Life of an International Educator - Register HERE
2021 Northern CA District Needs Assessment Report
A new Needs Assessment survey for 2021 was sent out to the NAFSA Northern CA District international education community, through the District listserv and various social media channels. A total of 36 surveys were completed and returned. Topics included:
- Demographic information
- Current challenges/needs
- Plans/ideas for the future
- Conference Preferences
- Interest in a potential mentorship program
This survey will help NAFSA to plan and provide relevant resources, information, events, and professional development opportunities in 2022.
The Northern California District awards mini-grants of up to $500 for innovative educational projects for educators, campuses, communities, or the Northern District at large. Projects may be workshops, materials creation, special events, trainings, and other innovative and creative projects that advance international education and/or the professional development of international educators in Region XII Northern District. Project proposals may relate to NAFSA knowledge communities, SIGs, MIGs, districts, or other interest groups. Creativity is encouraged. Two $500 Mini-Grants are available each year. Both mini-grants for 2022 are currently available.
