Dong Chen

Dong Chen is a PhD candidate in Higher Education at the University of Arizona, where she also earned a Master’s degree in Data Science. Her research examines how higher education institutions navigate changing global, political, and market environments. She studies how federal and institutional policies shape universities’ global engagement and international collaboration, including international marketing, transnational scientific collaboration, and dual-degree partnerships. She uses qualitative, quantitative, and computational methods in this work. Chen has published in Higher Education Quarterly and the Journal of Career Development, and has contributed a book chapter to Higher Education and Migration Pathways: Strengthening the Workforce and the Economy (Palgrave Macmillan).

Chen received the 2026 Innovative Research in International Education Award for her article, “Bridging Pecuniary and Non-Pecuniary Goods: Examining the Global Common Goods Impacts of a U.S. University's Transnational Dual-Degree Programmes,” published in Higher Education Quarterly and coauthored with Younghoon Koh, Hilary Houlette, and John Haupt.
