Submit a Poster Proposal for NAFSA 2026
Deadline to submit a proposal: Friday November 21, 2025
The Poster Fair is a wonderful opportunity to discover new ideas, engage with presenters one-on-one, and network with other attendees at the NAFSA 2026 Annual Conference & Expo. Explore twelve poster fair themes below that connect to the annual conference theme. You can submit a poster proposal related to any of the themes, and there is no limit to how many proposals you may submit. If your proposed topic fits within several themes, submit your proposal to the theme that best reflects your intended audience. Selected presenters will be expected to submit a virtual and physical representation of their posters in the spring leading up to the conference, and will engage with passerby on their poster topic for an hour and a half during the conference.
You can view the rubric used to rate posters here. Submitters will hear back on whether your poster is accepted into the program or not in early February, 2026.
Poster Proposal Submission Guidelines
When submitting a poster proposal, you are not expected to include a visual design or graphic of your poster. A visual representation of your poster only has to be developed once your poster proposal is accepted.
Submitting a poster proposal entails the following:
- Choose a fair from below for your poster to live in
- Have a working title, abstract, learning objectives, and content takeaways
- Include biographical data of presenter(s)
*For the International Education Research theme, please include your hypothesis, research methods, and thesis.
Posters must adhere to a strict noncommercial policy, and can only have 1-2 presenters. All poster presenters must agree to NAFSA's presenter policies.
Poster Themes
NEW: Advocacy in International Education
This poster fair presents experiences in direct action with government or on campus. Poster topics may include:
- Strategies and tactics to advocate for the value of international education at a local, state, national, or international policy level; within an institution; or in a local community
- Models for collaboration and shared value partnerships between educational institutions, community organizations, and governmental entities
- Best practices in storytelling through data to advocate for international education and advance the field and our work
NEW: Designing Global and Local Partnerships
Posters in this fair exhibit best practices in strategic planning and intentional partnership development to support global engagement on campus, in community, and virtually. Topics may entail:
- Ways to develop resilient partnerships that further internationalization through innovative curriculum and exchange
- Thoughtful, reciprocal engagement with stakeholders such as students, faculty, institutions, and local and international communities
- Application and critical consideration of theoretical models of internationalization to build and renew communities through collaboration
- Successful strategies campuses can utilize to prioritize community and global engagement
NEW: Global Initiatives at Community and Technical Colleges
These posters feature innovative global initiatives and international strategies at community and technical colleges. They highlight:
- Successful steps toward internationalization at community and technical colleges
- Innovative and creative partnerships with the private sector that support global initiatives at community and technical colleges
- Creative solutions to specific challenges that community colleges face in developing and sustaining global initiatives
Environmental Sustainability in International Education
This poster fair highlights the vital role of international education in combatting climate change and fostering environmental sustainability. Proposals showcase the following:
- Campus and international office initiatives on climate action
- Implementation and advancement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
- Innovative approaches and best practices to integrate sustainability principles into all facets of international education, including education abroad programs, international enrollment management, curriculum development, and campus operations
Facilitating Teaching and Learning
The posters in this fair exhibit model practices and success stories of teaching in a global context. Posters in this theme include:
- Examples of co-curricular activities, workforce, and career development
- Matters of global self-awareness, cultural diversity, as well as personal and social responsibility
- Teaching languages and other global skills development
- Working with faculty and curriculum development
This theme encourages proposals in both on-site and virtual global learning opportunities.
Global Outlooks in International Education
Posters in this theme present topics on issues relating to:
- Current issues, research, and trends pertaining to the higher education policies and systems of various countries and regions
- Mobility trends and scholarships for all students, both incoming and outgoing
- New educational programs and initiatives
- New laws affecting higher education
Increasing Accessibility and Belonging in International Education
Posters in this theme focus on accessibility and belonging in all aspects of international education, such as:
- Programs, support services, and resources to assist colleges and universities interested in expanding participation and equitable opportunities for international students, scholars, and education abroad participants
- Resources that support underrepresented and non-traditional populations, with focuses on sexual orientation, disability, religion, race and ethnicity, and socioeconomic status
- Proposals about supporting athletes, veterans, graduate students, first-generation students, and academic disciplines, particularly science and engineering, are also welcome
International Education Research and Assessment
Posters in this theme highlight model practices for gathering and analyzing data in various ways:
- Analyzing data to assess program and learning outcomes as well as program decision-making
- Highlighting important findings, perspectives, and academic inquiries to stimulate collaboration as well as provide tangible professional resources and educational understanding
- Innovative and in-depth qualitative and quantitative research in the field of international education
Submissions from graduate students, scholar-practitioners, and researchers from all knowledge communities are encouraged.
Model Practices and Insights in Education Abroad
Posters in this fair showcase the innovative education abroad experiences students engage in. Topics include:
- Campus-based, cocurricular, and virtual initiatives that institutions and organizations implement to stimulate, promote, and integrate learning at various stages of the education abroad experience
- Learning through education abroad as well as work, internships, service-learning, and research abroad for both credit and noncredit opportunities
- Comprehensive advising and recruitment strategies applicable to all education abroad stakeholders with a focus on shifting student and program leader interests and needs
- Predeparture orientations on safety, risk management, mental health, wellness programming, and communication with students (especially in crisis situations)
- Regulatory aspects of education abroad, especially model practices in reporting for the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act (Clery), and Title IX
Model Practices and Insights in International Enrollment Management
This poster fair features various international enrollment management strategies, such as:
- Creative recruitment strategies on alumni programs, technology platforms, and institutional storytelling used to successfully recruit, enroll, and retain international students
- Intensive English program administration
- Sponsored student programs, plans, models, and measurement tools
Model Practices and Insights in International Student and Scholar Services
Posters in this fair highlight model practices in international student and scholar services, including:
- Campus programming for international students, namely orientation, intercultural initiatives, employment, and career services
- Compliance with exchange visitor and employment-based sponsorship policies
- Successful case studies in effectively navigating crises, as well as ensuring students' and scholars' well-being and safety
- Support for special populations such as J-1 students, international spouses, families, and postdocs
Uses of AI and Technology in International Education
This poster fair exhibits artificial intelligence (AI) and technology in international education. Note: This theme is intended to present educational concepts, policies and model practices versus demonstrations of technology tools. Proposal topics may involve:
- Uses of AI in international education
- Campus policies and ethical considerations
- Impacts of AI on teaching and learning
- Using new technology to improve office and process workflows
