New Geographic COVID-19 Proclamation Restricts Entry from Southern Africa Countries

November 28, 2021
In response to concerns over the COVID-19 Omicron variant, a new Presidential Proclamation restricts entry to the United States by most noncitizens who have been in Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, or Zimbabwe in the 14-day period before their entry or attempted entry to the United States, with limited exceptions. The proclamation is effective on November 29, 2021.

The annual verification period for Principal Designated School Officials, Designated School Officials (PDSO/DSO) and Responsible Officers and Alternate Responsible Officers (RO/ARO) begins December 2, 2021. All SEVP-certified schools and U.S. Department of State-designated sponsors must complete the PDSO/DSO and RO/ARO annual verification by March 2, 2022.
