Each year, hundreds of NAFSA members volunteer to create and disseminate knowledge, influence public policy, and maintain a strong organization. These leaders serve on committees, knowledge communities, task forces, and in other volunteer roles. The work of the association could not be accomplished without the time and expertise of these volunteers. Serving in a leadership capacity offers a unique opportunity for personal and professional growth.
Elected Volunteer Leadership
NAFSA Board members and chairs of the five Knowledge Communities, the Leadership Development Committee and the Member Engagement Committee are elected to their roles per the NAFSA Standing Rules. Applications are due in March and notifications occur by July. The election slate goes live in late summer (August/September). The application cycle for 2022 has closed. Applications will open in 2023 for chair-elect and Board positions starting in the following year.
Appointed Volunteer Leadership
Appointed leadership positions are appointed to their roles per the NAFSA Standing Rules. Appointed leadership positions are advertised as openings occur throughout the calendar year. After receiving applications, the committee or knowledge community chairs review applications and consider potential candidates. Applications are reviewed within 4 to 6 weeks of the submission deadline. Notifications on the status of an application occur within 8 to 12 weeks thereafter.
