This calendar was curated by the Education Abroad Knowledge Community’s subcommittee on diversity and inclusion in education abroad with important diversity, equity, and inclusion dates. The goal was to help international education professionals to celebrate and support different populations or areas of social justice.
How to use the calendar
Consider how to inclusively and actively educate, innovate, or advocate within your organization or university to create inclusive programming which highlights various lived experiences or milestones around diversity, equity, and inclusion. Aligned with the goals of NAFSA’s 2021-2023 Strategic Plan, the subcommittee hopes this calendar will help professionals appropriately recognize diverse cultural groups and events and to ensure representational buy-in from the celebrated communities.
- Educate
- Create an asset map of the resources already available on your campus. Are there organizations on your campus that are already doing the work? For example, for Lunar New Year celebrations, are there student groups who could be natural allies to assist with developing educational and culturally-relevant programming?
- Innovate
- What innovative collaborations can you foster in your community at large and on your campus? For example, could the office of international education and the office of diversity, equity, and inclusion collaborate on commemorative events that happen throughout the year?
- Advocate
- If these resources are not available on your campus, what conversations could be had to garner more support?
