Vishakha Desai: Reclaiming the Global in Higher Education

Within the current geopolitical environment, globalism can be misconstrued as nationalism, and international educators have an opportunity to redefine what “global” means.

In this interview, Vishakha Desai of Columbia University explores how rethinking “global” as transnational, interdependent, and relational empowers faculty and others working in the field to tackle the world’s pressing issues. These challenges—from health crises to climate change—are inherently interdisciplinary, and students must be prepared to face and solve those challenges.  •
