Building a Data Strategy to Advocate for IE Programs

Introduces methodologies for collecting quantitative data and highlights key data points used for analysis. You'll learn how to gather and interpret data from various stakeholders, including student enrollment, financial aid, and program expenditures.

After completing Part 1, participants will be able to:

  • Identify a data strategy to support data-based decisions at their institutions;
  • Use appropriate vocabulary to discuss data strategy with stakeholders;
  • Identify other key stakeholders and other sources of data across their campus;
  • Determine which questions require data to gain critical insights; and
  • Collect and access data on behalf of your programs and student needs.
Foundations for Strategic Analysis of International Education Data

Focuses on analyzing data to inform decisions and advocate for your programs. You'll explore strategies to reveal relationships between variables, such as the impact of homestays on student satisfaction and how foreign language proficiency influences this relationship.

After completing Part 2, participants will be able to:

  • Identify data reporting methods likely to impact decisions at your institution;
  • Determine what questions to ask of the data, and strategies to help find answers;
  • Begin to apply foundations of quantitative data analysis to address programmatic and institutional goals; and
  • Consider strategies for collaborating with other stakeholders across campus to influence data collection procedures.
Applied Analysis for Strategic Decision Making

Provides techniques for communicating results from data collected through surveys and interviews. You'll learn how to share findings with scholarly, practitioner, and policy-oriented audiences to drive improvements in international education programs and services.

After completing Part 3, participants will be able to:

  • Assess the relationship between two variables in a dataset;
  • Explore how different variables in a dataset relate to each other;
  • Use larger institutional goals (e.g., accreditation) to identify and analyze sets of data;
  • Analyze data to reveal ways to improve programs; and
  • Leverage analysis to advocate for international education with various stakeholders.
Sharing Results for Effective Advocacy

Emphasizes the application of data-driven insights to achieve strategic goals. You'll understand how to use data to advocate for necessary changes and enhance the effectiveness of your programs.

After completing Part 4, participants will be able to:

  • Use data to advocate for international education at institutions, organizations, and with policy-makers;
  • Explore opportunities for collaboration with other key stakeholders to advocate for meeting strategic goals and priorities;
  • Use data to improve programs and services; and
  • Leverage findings to advocate for international education with various stakeholders.
